It may seem simple, but as a beginner it’s quite difficult to roll your own joint. Of course you can choose the easy way and buy a pre-rolled joint or let someone else do the work for you. But how cool is it if you’re able to do the trick yourself? In this article, we’ll tell you how to roll the perfect joint yourself. Read on quickly.
What’s in a joint?
The main ingredient of a joint is hash or weed. Both of these products come from the cannabis plant. The products are crumbled and often mixed with tobacco or herbs. At the end of the joint you will also find a cardboard tip.
Why is it important to roll a joint the right way?
Rolling your joint properly is important, as the right shape and firmness contribute to a much better smoking experience. In addition, the aromas of weed and hashish better come into their own in a well-rolled joint.
Rolling a joint yourself vs. buying a pre-rolled joint
At many coffee shops you can buy pre-rolled joints. All you have to do is light them up and smoke them. Nevertheless, many smokers still prefer to roll their own joint. One of the reasons for this is that most pre-rolled joints contain tobacco. This is extra harmful to your health. Another reason to roll your own smoking unit is that it allows you to choose your own dosage. This allows you to determine the strength and better calculate the effects.
What do you need to roll a joint?
To roll a good joint, you need a few essentials. First, of course, the weed or hash you want to use. Second, you need long rolling paper and a tip. Third, you need something to tamp it before it’s ready. You can use a regular pen or pencil for this purpose. Finally, it’s optional to use a grinder and a rolling tray to construct your perfect joint.
Tips for rolling a joint
Rolling a joint is not as easy as it seems. A great tip is learning by watching how an experienced roller does it. This way, you quickly pick up the tricks of the trade. More tips follow below.
Step 1: Grind the weed or hashish of your choice
Start off with grinding the product of your choice into very fine pieces. You can do this with your fingers, but we advise you to use a grinder. This saves you time and prevents sticky fingers. When grinding, the idea is to break the hashish and weed into small pieces, but not into powder.
Step 2: Use a tip (or not)
Some smokers swear by using a tip, while others don't. We, for one, think that using a tip does have advantages. It ensures, for example, that you don't waste any weed as it prevents anything from falling out. Another plus is that it allows you to hold your joint until it’s finished without burning your fingers. You can roll a tip from a piece of thick paper or cardboard. In most coffeeshops, you can also buy a booklet with tips. The best way to fold your tip is to keep it in an accordion shape. First make as many folds as the diameter of the tip. Then roll the rest of the paper around it.
Step 3: Fill and roll
Now it's rolling time. Get your rolling paper and your grinded product (optionally mixed with tobacco or herbs) at hand. Divide the mix evenly, yet make sure to put a little more of the smoking product in the front and a little less towards the tip.
Step 4: Create a cone shape
Although it’s easier to roll a straight model, you should aim for a cone shape. Hold the paper filled with the product between your thumb and index finger. Use the tip size as a benchmark. Now gently roll it back and forth. Let the paper wrap around itself until you reach the adhesive edge. Make this edge wet with your tongue and continue rolling. The tighter the joint is rolled, the better! If you find it difficult to roll a joint yourself, we recommend using a rolling tray.
Step 5: Tamp the rolled joint
Before you close the joint at the top, it needs to be tamped. You can use a pen or a similar object. First, put the fallen weed back into the joint. Then gently press the open end with your pen.
Step 6: Close your joint
When you’ve done everything right, there should be an excess piece of rolling paper at the tip of your joint. Close the joint by twisting it. This stops weed from falling out and allows you to store it if you don't start smoking right away. The twisted end can also function as a fuse to light your joint. Now you know exactly how to roll the perfect joint! Get your friends together to enjoy your self-rolled masterpiece. Because smoking together is more fun than smoking alone.
