To assess this one, we need to dig right back to the roots of it (pun intended).
Naturally and historically, we're talking about two different products that both look and feel different, and of course, are different. That being said, over centuries and decades of hybridization and underground growing creating countless different mixed strains, the simple black and white days of differentiating Indica and Sativa are long gone.
But, not to catastrophize the situation here - when you source your green goods from reputable stores, coffeeshops, and distributors, you can access a wide variety of hybrid options, among which you can find more Sativa dominant, and more Indica dominant bud.
So what does this mean, and what do the different strains have to offer?
Sativa Dominant Strains
Legend has it that 'Sativa' strains will give you more of a buzzed-up high, full of laughter and an overall higher energy experience than an Indica would. But is this true?
Yes, and no.
The truth behind the different feeling you'll get from different strains is to do with the combination of cannabinoids andterpenes in that strain, however, some Sativas are known for typically creating a feeling of :
- Being "head high" (as opposed to your body feeling the heavier effects of the high)
- Increasing creativity
- Boosting focus
Sativa dominant strains are generally the preferred choice for socialising and for daytime smoking, especially when you're planning on ticking things off the task list or going sightseeing.
Indica Dominant Strains
Indica dominant strains undeservedly get a pretty bad rep most of the time. Known for being the "body high" smoke, Indica strains are said to make you feel a little less vibrant, and a little more sedative, which is where the term "couch lock" comes in.
This is some what true, as typically Indica strains have higher levels of a terpene called myrcene that can simulate feelings like these. There are some pretty powerful and awesome effects generated with Indicas, like:
- Relieving physical aches and pains
- Enhancing your appetite
- Helping you sleep better
Indica strains can be a useful tool, but for the most part are a better bud for when you're really ready to relax, chill, and enjoy a snack or two (...or three).
